A 27-year-old Tel Aviv resident, Or Beilin, was apprehended by Israeli authorities on June 24 for allegedly spying on public officials and military installations under the direction of Iranian handlers. The suspect reportedly received thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency as payment for his activities, which included covert photography and surveillance.

Israeli security forces seized digital equipment from Beilin's residence, including devices used to communicate with Iranian contacts and process crypto transactions. The Shin Bet emphasized the ongoing threat of foreign intelligence services recruiting citizens through financial incentives, highlighting the operational risks posed by anonymous digital payments.

The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court extended Beilin's detention through June 26 as investigations continue. This case underscores the dual-use nature of cryptocurrency in global security contexts—while enabling financial innovation, it also presents new vectors for transnational threats.
